Summer holiday season is in full swing. Unfortunately, the hottest months of the year can be problematic in terms of food storage. Importantly, it is also a period when fresh fruit and vegetables abound. High temperatures, which may sometimes persist for weeks at a time, accelerate food deterioration processes. More thoughtful shopping is definitely recommendable – during spells of hot weather it is best to buy only as much food as we are able to eat in a day or two. What else should you pay attention to in the summer? We have prepared a list of matters important from the point of view of refrigerators.

1. “No Frost” system is key

Days when the fridge required thawing and regular cleaning to work efficiently are long since gone. It was most problematic in the summer. We all remember the stress of having to throw food away, as it would not withstand the heat. Fortunately, everything is much easier now. Sharp SJ-T2435E0W fridge-freezer features the Advanced No Frost system, which – thanks to an independent air distribution system in refrigerator and freezer compartments – prevents frost build-up and the penetration of odours from one compartment to another.

2. Remember to leave a space between products

Products deteriorate faster if they are packed close together or stacked on top of each other. Be careful not to put too much food in the fridge in the summer, as limited space hinders air flow, which results in a rise in temperature. Processed products ought to be located above raw food, which reduces the risk of food poisoning caused by the contamination of cooked food with raw products. If you want to keep your fridge space under control, we recommend Sharp SJ-BA31IEXW2 fridge-freezer. The device is equipped with AdaptiLift solution, thanks to which you can easily adjust the arrangement of containers on the door and adapt it to your needs.

3. Fruit, vegetables and meat – products under strict control

First of all, remember to check which fruits and vegetables can be stored in the fridge. For example, tomatoes and cucumbers – particularly abundant in the summer – should ripen at room temperature. Delicate raspberries, blackberries, dill, parsley and cherries need to be stored in the fridge. Remember not to wash them before putting them in the fridge – it is better to do it straight before serving. Meat should not be kept close to eggs or in the vicinity of cooked dishes. It is best to place these most sensitive products in drawers with optimal conditions for their storage. Many Sharp fridge-freezers feature such a solution. SJ-T1498M0I has, among other things, a special container for fresh fruit and vegetables. In addition, there is the ZeroDegreeZone, in which meat and fish can be safely stored over long periods of time.

4. Dishes in the fridge

In the summer, we try to cool dishes faster and we are reluctant to keep them outside the fridge for too long. However, it is important to wait at least 2 hours before placing a cooked dish inside the fridge. A hot pan placed inside a fridge will cause excessive frosting and increase energy consumption. In addition, it will raise temperature in the refrigerator, prompting the refrigeration unit to work at a greater speed in an attempt to lower it. This can easily damage the fridge, which would be particularly problematic in the summer, when we most need it.
